Introduction

Hi, my name is Penny. I'm an Italian Greyhound and live in Cape Town, South Africa. I was born in July 2005. Before I tell more about myself, here is a picture of me:

What is an Italian Greyhound?

When it comes to having a pet, an Italian Greyhound is one of the most wonderful dog breeds there are. We are small and have a very short coat, we are extremely affectionate and are very tolerant with children.
The Italian Greyhound are identical to the common Greyhound but with one difference, we are a LOT smaller.

A comment from Penny's owners

Penny has been the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to us. The whole story behind us selecting an IG originates from long days of research on the Internet for the perfect pet. A lot of people tend to believe that they are difficult to train; this is not true! They are extremely intelligent and like all dogs will challenge your authority ONLY if you allow them to. Like with any first time dog owner, take them for puppy training - not to train them; but yourself.

Penny has been spoiled rotten from Puppy days, but this has had no influence on her behaviour; she is very well behaved and obedient. Once you have established that obedient behaviour, you can take your dog anywhere with you and because of their small size and good behaviour, people do not mind you taking them even in shops. Penny has tagged along eveywhere with us, from the busy shops in Durbanville to even crayfish diving with us.


Italian Greyhound love running and they are extremely good at it easily reaching speeds in excess of 60km/h - it is quite a remarkable sight!
